Familiar Light
I listen to several podcasts centered around Apple Macintosh computers, Photoshop and photography. One person that I really respect for his opinion and commentary is Alex Lindsey of the Pixel Corps. I have often heard him comment that the best photographer in their family is his sister, Jennifer Stein. I always thought that he was biased. He may be, but so am I now.
She post fairly regularly even considering the birth of their fourth child. The images that she gets are truly stunning and she is quite open with what went into the decision as well as the actual settings that went into the capture. It is a touching glimpse into her family and the joys and trials of raising four children with her husband.
If you get a chance, stop on by her site, Familiar Light and take a look for yourself. You will be blessed by what you see and read.
Hymas Images is now up
Some good friends of mine have just brought up a site showcasing some of their fine wildlife images for sale. Stop on by and take a look!
Team Hymas
Duane and Shirleen Hymas, a husband and wife photography team, are both native to Vancouver, Washington and have passionately followed photography as a hobby for the past eight years. Their photography careers really blossomed about four years ago when they were asked by an agent of Washington State Tourism to license some of their pictures for the state tourism website. Not long after that the local newspaper The Columbian did a story on them.
Their knowledge of little known Southwest Washington’s habitats allows them to produce unique landscape and wildlife shots of the region. While wildlife has been a major part of the team’s focus, landscapes, destination shots and people studies round out their portfolio.
Duane has the “artist eye”… always looking to get that unique perspective, always eager to try a different camera setting, always wanting to improve. Duane’s day job as a Website Administrator has given him formal training with Photoshop and years of experience optimizing photographs for website use.
Shirleen has a well-developed sense of timing, great composition skills and a natural sense of what people like to see in photographs. These qualities coupled with her dedication to always improve her photography, make her the perfect complement to Duane’s technical skills and artistic style. Their combined skills and dedication is what makes Team Hymas unique.
It’s Scott Kelby Worldwide Photowalk time again!!!
So… What is a Photowalk anyway? Well…
“You take yourself and a camera to a designated meeting place to meet up with other photographers, then venture out into an area and snap away! Walk around taking pictures for a couple of hours, then gather at a restaurant, bar, or other eatery/drinkery, and compare, share, discuss, and have a good time.”
I will once again be taking part in the annual Worldwide Photowalk this year on July 24th. In fact, I will be doing TWO of them!!
The first is early (5:30am!!) at Oaks Park with the great Laurie Excell once again!! There is still room.
And the second is the Downtown Portland Waterfront/Industrial walk. It is from 9:45am to 1pm. It is currently filled, but go and sign up on the waiting list anyways. I had a few friends who did not make it initially and have been added due to cancellations.
I hope to see you there!!
Looks like there is a new Photoshop coming!!
Everyone is a buzz about Adobe’s announcement/tease coming April 12th!!
Adobe releases Lightroom 3 beta 2
In doing my morning perusal of blogs I came across the announcement on Scott Kelby’s that beta 2 for Adobe’s Lightroom 3 had been released.
It just keeps getting better. It is hard to believe that this is beta code. I have been using beta 1 for all of my work for the past several months. I could go on forever about all of the changes that have been added but I would point you to Scott’s site as well as Terry White, Adobe’s Worldwide Design Evangelist. He even has a video where he goes over the latest changes.
Chase Jarvis interview on PSUTV
I just got finished watching an outstanding interview on Photoshop User TV with Chase Jarvis.
If anyone should be unapproachable, this guy is it. Except that he is NOT! You get the feeling that you could sit down and ask him anything and he would answer it, show you, whatever it took to make sure that you understood the subject.
I highly recommend heading on over and giving this a watch.
Lightroom 3 BETA
I am really liking the new Lightroom. Everything seems to be a whole lot more intuative. I especially like the new feature for dealing with copyright layers on exporting.
It is nice to not be subjected to having to back up the catalog in start now as well.
Canon releases EF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS II USM lens
From DPREVIEW
Pre-CES 2010: Canon has released a successor to its professional workhorse fast telezoom, in the shape of the EF 70-200mm F2.8 L IS II USM. Although outwardly similar to its predecessor, the new lens features a revised optical design, incorporating a fluorite element and no fewer than 5 UD elements for the correction of chromatic aberrations. The minimum focus distance has been reduced to 1.2m, with a corresponding increase in maximum magnification to 0.21x. The mechanical design has also been modified, with the most obvious external change being a wider focusing ring. As usual for an L series design, the lens features dust- and drip-proof construction. It’s also fully compatible with Canon’s existing teleconverters and extension tubes.
